Shafts for golf clubs are primarily made of steel or graphite. The steel shafts are made of an alloy of carbon steel and chrome of protection applies to prevent rust. A graphite shaft can also be called a composite shaft, as from multiple layers of carbon fiber and epoxy resin holding the layers together. Even There are some wells made of steel and graphite. However, you are probably wondering what is best for you?
Steel rods are used for golf clubs since the early 1920, although earlier versions may be
date back to the turn of the 20th century. Graphite shaft is a relatively new material, used in golf, dating from late the 1960, but not gain widespread acceptance until the mid-1980s. Both materials are used for some of the following reasons.
Steel rods are less Manufacturers expensive and easily able to reconcile from the axle shaft. Steel rods are made of a single material, thus creating a new model is limited to geometry changes in the axis as the outside diameters along its' length, thickness, distance between each step (unless it is an axis of progression continuous) and the use of additional metals (such as chromium, vanadium and nickel) in the alloys. Premium steel shafts cost about the same low-end graphite shafts.
Graphite shafts were originally designed for a lightweight alternative to steel shafts. However, there are graphite shafts that weigh more than some models steel, but this is very rare. Steel rods range from about 90g to 130g, while graphite shafts can be a little as 39g. The most popular range of weight of the rod Forest graphite is 60-70 grams of iron and shaft weight is closer to 70 to 80 grams. One of the biggest advantages of graphite shafts is its lower weight.
Since the graphite shafts are generally lighter than steel shafts, there is potential for a greater distance, which can be rotated slightly faster. Most of the graphite shaft clubs come together longer than standard steel rod clubs. Golfers who tend to be less consistent can find the steel shafts to give them more control. But for golfers, such as ladies and seniors, who need additional length to enjoy the game better, graphite shafts are a good alternative.
Another advantage of graphite shafts over steel is from a design standpoint. As already noted, the graphite shafts are manufactured from multiple layers of carbon fiber. Each layer can be a different module (strength) of material and can be applied at different angles to contribute independently the stiffness or reduction of the torque along the shaft length. This allows manufacturing graphite shafts almost limitless possibilities in new designs.
Because different materials able to be used in the golf shaft manufacturer, is a much greater range in prices too. A cheap graphite shaft can cost $ 10.00, while the most expensive shaft can cost up to $ 1000.00! Although most graphite shafts normally found in $ 10 – $ 90 range. Wait a club with a rod graphite to cost more than a steel shaft.
This is one reason why what most golfers have steel and graphite shafts in their clubs bag. Over 90% of all drivers have graphite shafts in them. This is because the driver is designed for maximum distance and is much larger and easier success than they were just a few years ago. For fairway woods, over 80% are equipped with graphite shafts as players tend to match the driver with the same type of shaft. Golfers, who tend to hit the ball a long way and / or need more control, you can find steel your taste. There are a number of lightweight steel shafts available as an alternative to graphite.
Irons and wedges are usually just the opposite in the choice of material axis. Approximately 75% of irons sold today are sold with steel shafts. The main reason for choosing steel may be an economic factor as the iron and wedges are a large percentage of the clubs in the bag. The other reason for choosing players in their steel plates and wedges to control it rather than the distance increasing, especially among stronger individuals. However, there are a number of quality trees graphite iron which come in different weights and stiffness to match almost all golfers.
The choice between steel or graphite shafts to be based on whether you are looking at a greater distance or not. Increased distance have a higher cost, not only financially, but for those who no longer hits the ball very straight, hit the ball more, may even aggravate the problem. Sure intelligent decision making based on their personal goals and current trends.
