Mallet Head

For some people perform maintenance on the bike is something we leave to the professionals, they take their bikes in garages and get a mechanic to do the job. This is usually up not knowing what to do to keep your bike in good condition.

While this is fine for some, you can save much money to buy doing basic tasks yourself.

Take for example a change of tires. The average cost for replacing a tire can be anywhere place between £ 30-A £ 60 each, plus the cost of the tire. That is, if you take the bike to the garage and have it take away from the wheel, replace the tire and reinstall.

Whereas if you take a loose wheel to them that the price will drop to around £ 10-Â £ 15.

Taking the bicycle wheel can be daunting at first, no shafts, bearings, spacers, disk brakes, etc. confused about. But when you've done it once you'll wonder why all that is for the garage to do.

In this article I will concentrate on the front wheel, as there are differences in how to address the elimination on the back.

First of all you will need:

– One front or Jack can lift the front wheel of the earth safely. (Essential)

– A selection of sockets and hex keys (essentially, the sizes vary depending on the model bike you have to make sure before try removing)

– A torque wrench

– A box that you can use to store all related parties during the extraction (recommended)

– One post (recommended)

The steps you need to take are:

1. Eliminates fairings, fenders and plastics that can be on the road.

Step very simple, most of the fairings are held in place by screws Allen, just unscrew and remove anything that prevents me from removing the wheel.

2. Remove the brakes.

There are two approaches to this depending on whether there disc brakes or drum brakes.

A. The disk brakes.

Remove the caliper by unscrewing clamp fork leg assembly. Gently pull the caliper away from the disk and secure with a ribbon cable or chain not to press the brake hoses, clamps to repeat second.

B. Drum brakes.

Unscrew and remove the connection or cable connecting the brake controls

3. Loosen the axle.

Again, there are different ways to do this in terms of cycling.

A. If your bike has "tightening bolts," which should loosen these first. Then, using connectors correct size to hold a stationary shaft side and loosen the other side. Do not remove, however, only loosen.

B. If your bicycle not simply loosen the clamp bolt axis as described above.

4. Lift your bike.

Now you have to lift the bike time using a stance or a way to ensure that the bike is safe and stable at all times. Just trying to firm ground level, and once lifted with straps secure.

I also use a backplate in this step because it keeps the bike level and stable.

Lift your bike until the suspension only is completely discharged want the wheel just touching the floor.

5. Remove the shaft

YOU ARE NOW READY TO ELIMINATE SHAFT fully unscrew the shaft and tighten bolts. The axis may need a slight tap with a rubber mallet to break free from the fork legs.

When you quit you have to take the mechanism of speed and spacers used in the front wheel. Make sure you know what they were capable.

The front wheel must now deploy.

You are now free to make the front wheel maintenance mechanics without being charged fees.

Change the tires, disc brakes, bearings, what you want.

To install the wheel simply do these steps backwards making sure all bolts are on a par with the factory settings (user manual for our machine has details)

Advice

– Cleaning and sand off any corrosion on wheel spacers before reinstalling, not only makes you look better bike, but eliminates the possibility that foreign objects entering their bearings.

– Right from the descriptions of the dismantled parts and go.

– Keep the parts in separate sections of a small box.

– If you have no picture, replace the axle on the fork legs with the right parts in the correct order, while the wheel is off.

Clean all parts thoroughly before replacing the wheel, sand and dirt their bearings worst enemy.
