Should John Daly be paid an appearance fee to play the Australian Masters? ?
There is a reasonably good field since it is co-sanctioned with the euro tour. Why would they pay him when they could get someone else who sets a better example and that will probably make the cut.
Your Thoughts?
If you think in terms of business, it makes sense. As much of a train wreck as the man is, he has a large number of fans. There would be people that will buy tickets to see him, that wouldn’t buy them if he wasn’t there. The amount of money for tickets vs. the appearance fee usually works on the side of the tournament.
That being said, I am against any players receiving an appearance fee for an event where there is already money at stake for the winners.
