How to secure a black powder revolver is safe to shoot?
Ok I bought a black powder reolver (replica of the Colt Navy .44) than I guess it was a kit. I took all the first, replaced some internals and presented by the grips and brass parts to fit. What such controls can be done to make sure this is safe to fire?
This is what I would do. Go to a shooting range with the following equipment … The revolver. Black Powder. Caps. Balls. Long cord. Several bags of sand (throw bags of silica sand). Safety glasses. Follow the instructions and load only one chamber of the gun with a light load of black powder. Cap, and put it under the sandbags with the barrel downrange safety. The cable is linked to activation. Cock the hammer. Back, using safety glasses all the time. Pull the cord gently. It is fire. Repeat for other cylinder. After two successful firings, you know it is safe.
