Hole 19 – a term that jokingly refers to the clubhouse.
Albatross – three strokes under par.
Ball Hawking – looking for balls in the limits areas of the course.
Mark Ball – the "dent" that makes the ball, when hit on the green.
Birdie – One stroke under par.
Bogey – one stroke over par.
Bunker – an area in a hole filled with sand, also known as bunker.
Chunk – Having a large piece of grass land when striking the ball. The ball does not usually travel much at all.
Divot – a piece of grass out of the ground to hit the ball.
Double, triple, etc. Bogey – two, three, etc. on two hits.
Drive through the green – to hit the ball on the green from the tee on a par 4 or 5.
Driver – the club normally used from the tee to reach the maximum distance.
Eagle – two strokes under par
Fairway – the short grass between the tee box and green.
Fringe – the grass a little longer around the green.
Green – The surface on which golfers. It contains the hole.
Hacker – used to describe a bad player.
Handicap (index) – the average number of individual golfer strokes over par per round, calculated by a computer system.
Handicap (one hole) — the level of difficulty of a hole, relative to other holes on the course. A 1 handicap hole is the most difficult, while 18 handicap hole is the easiest.
Hook – when a clever ball player has a path that curves sharply to the left.
Irons – using clubs to hit intermediate distances.
Torque – the number of strokes in which hole is expected to be completed.
Pull – when a skilled player hits the ball considerably to the left of the goal in a straight path, although they were aimed at the goal.
Push – when a skilled player hits the ball considerably the right of the goal in a straight path, while was meant to be on target.
Putter – the club used to hit the ball into the hole on the green.
Rough – the longer grass that surrounds green street.
Slice – when a clever ball player has a path that curves sharply to the right.
Spikes – the "heels" in the bottom of golf shoes.
Stroke – whenever the ball is hit, a player receives a blow.
Tee Box – When a player hits his first shot on every hole.
The Return – "make change" is when players go from the pit hole number nine and number ten. Many golfers standing on the clubhouse turn, for refreshments.
Wedge – using clubs to hit the ball on the green from a relatively short distance. (usually around 100 yards or less).
