fairness they should ask Mandelson and half the cabinet questions over their past as young communists and what they got up to

From what I have seen the BBC has, since the days of Margaret Thatcher, firmly sided with the liberal left, anyone who proclaims themselves as a Conservative (with a big or little ‘C’) or has a background of privilege or money must be an insensitive monster incapable of common decency or humanity and must be exposed as such.
Those of the socialist tendency are, of course, perfect beings whose youthful indiscretions were, well…. youthful indiscretions that have no bearing on them today.
