Waterfall photography is a favorite subject for many a nature photographer. In fact, a cascade may well be a magnet for almost anyone with a camera.
Like any subject in nature photography, waterfall photos also come with their own set of challenges. A beginner can be disappointed with the time the results again and again simply because of simple mistakes that can be easily overcome. It is not really expensive photography equipment or methods of cascade good high technology, just a decent camera and a basic understanding of some manual settings.
In fact, a real waterfall photography good, probably owes more to good lighting and composition than to technology. This is great news, but it means that you can improve your waterfall photos no matter what kind of camera you have! Here are five simple tips to help you make some great fall photos of your own.
Waterfall Photography Tip # 1. Choosing the right weather conditions. Waterfalls are in the jungle, or in heavily wooded areas. That means that the same rules that apply lighting to the photograph of the rain forests also apply to photos waterfall. Most of the time you receive your best photos on a cloudy day. Coverage clouds creates even low-contrast lighting that removes stubborn stains of light and shadow image of its waterfall. While we're on the topic of lighting, avoid using flash in most situations. It will destroy the atmosphere created by natural light.
You should also try to avoid windy days. If you is working with a slow shutter (see tip # 2) do not want the trees to be blowing on the merits and the blurring of the picture.
Waterfall Photo Tip # 2. Experiment with shutter speeds and Carry a tripod. You've probably seen the soft wispy effect created by photographers shots of water flowing a very slow shutter speeds. This is a very popular and has great impact for some photos. However, it is not the only method that should be treated. Some photos may look great, but if you do all your photos so you can easily become repetitive and boring. Furthermore, the effect is simply not faint suit every waterfall. In my experience, waterfalls cascading over the rocks and have various levels look great at low speed. Usually a shutter speed of one second. However, the waterfalls that fall directly down on a ledge in the pool usually look better with a little more definition, try a speed of about 30/sec or 15/sec. Experiment with different speeds always get the best result in the end.
Despite the effect you're after, you should always have your tripod with you for the photograph of the waterfall. If you're in the woods on a cloudy day, the light level is very low, and you may find yourself forced to use very slow shutter speeds, like it or not.
Waterfall Photography Tip # 3. Explore intermediates. Upon arrival at your location, the first instinct is usually standing right in front of the waterfall and take more direct angle. However, the best result is often when you explore downstream. You can find an angle where the stream cascades toward you, with the main waterfall in the background. Or you may be able to frame the waterfall through tree branches. There really is no end to the possibilities, the point is, there is never a take one shot of a waterfall, and the photo obviously is not always the best.
Waterfall Photography Tip # 4. Put You wide-angle to work. A wide angle lens is very useful for several reasons. First, it has a strong natural depth of field. If you are using a slow shutter speed for water is important to maintain the rest of the photo sharp. If your main subject is moving and the surroundings are out of focus, the result will only be a great spot. Secondly, the objective Wide Angle has an exaggerated sense of perspective, allowing the viewer to feel they are looking for current or in the forest, not just a flat image.
Waterfall Photography Tip # 4. Let the water flow shape your composition. Every time you compose a picture using lines and shapes on the image to create the best impact. The direction of movement in water can create a powerful visual flow in the photograph. The viewer's eye naturally follow the direction of the water, so use this way to help your composition. If you stand downstream so that current flows toward the camera, you can create a different visual direction in composition actually capture and lead the eye of the beholder.
So, there you have five very simple ways to take better photos waterfall. As in all Nature photography, writing and reading about it is never as inspiring as go out and do it. I hope these tips give you some motivation to find a friend, go out there and practice. Have fun!
